An Evening with Pulitzer Prize-Winning Historian Dr. Edda Fields-Black In-Person
We are honored to welcome Dr. Edda L. Fields-Black to Upper St. Clair Township Library. Her groundbreaking book, COMBEE: Harriet Tubman, the Combahee River Raid, and Black Freedom during the Civil War, was awarded the 2025 Pulitzer Prize in History and the Lincoln Prize. In her remarkable work, Dr. Fields-Black brings new light to Harriet Tubman’s Civil War service, leading the Combahee River Raid that liberated 756 enslaved people—the largest slave rebellion in U.S. history.
As a Carnegie Mellon University professor and one of today’s most respected historians, Dr. Fields-Black’s visit is a special opportunity for our community to engage with history at its highest level.
